To do so, turn the pot upside down and put it to the board.
Storage Planter
This cute and functional container is a fantastic way to quickly stash those items you need simple access to but do not need cluttering up your space. It's ideal for kids to throw their backpacks when they return from college, or to fall shoes it. Pick a gorgeous planter, place a cushioned lid on top, and what's hidden away at a cute ottoman.
Supplies
To create your own storage ottoman you will require a large clay planter. You can use a plain terracotta pot if you want, but have the chance to choose among those beautiful glazed ones that you've had your eye on. Pick a heavyweight floral fabric in colors that enhance your pot, and stuffing for your cushion. To the construction of your ottoman cushion you'll require plywood large mirrors . at least 4 ply and large enough to cover the surface of your kettle with some overlap, as well as a narrow plank to create the lip, roughly 1 inch by half an inch. You'll also want wood glue, a fresh roll of tape, a pencil, screws, work gloves, staple gun, power hand saw and sandpaper or power sander.
Creating A Guideline
In order to cut a ring from your plywood, you will need to first draw out a guideline. To do so, turn the pot upside down and put it to the board. Lay your brand new roll of tape flat on the board so that it touches the edge of the kettle. Put a pencil at the middle of the roll of tape and then press it against the edge closest to the pot so you are pushing the roll of tape against the pot. Draw round the pot, allowing the tape roll around the border as you move the pencil. This will give you an even guideline of the ideal size and shape.
Cutting The Board
A jigsaw works great for cutting the curve required for this project, but you can also use a reciprocating saw. Cut along the outside of the curved line you drew. Err on the side of cutting your circle too large rather than too small. As soon as your circle is cut, sand any splinters and rough edges. Make sure you wear eye protection when working with power tools, and take all essential security precautions.
Stuffing The Cushion
You are able to use a variety of different types of stuffing for your own pillow. You can cut a piece of thick foam, use polyester stuffing, or recycle the filling from an old pillow or cushion. Use enough to cover the surface of the wood and allow it to be comfortable for sitting.
Stretching Fabric
The amount of fabric you will need to cover your cushion depends on the size of pot you're using, but in case you aren't sure how much you'll need it's safe to begin with a yard. You can use just one piece of fabric or cut and resew it to create a decorative effect if you prefer. Cover the stuffing with the fabric, and turn it over so the board is facing upward. Pull one edge of the cloth over the back of the board and staple into the plank close to the edge. Pull the opposite edge of the fabric tight round the board and staple it. Then proceed a quarter turn to the right and gently stretch and staple the fabric. Continue to stretch and basic, moving evenly back and forth across the circle.
Staples and Glue
As you proceed around the ring you will have to fold the cloth to help it wrap closely around the edge of the plank. Add a bit of timber or multipurpose adhesive below the edge of the cloth for extra security before you basic. Glue and basic until the cloth is firmly connected to the underside of the board, and no stuffing can leak out.
Trimming Fabric
Once your fabric is firmly attached, then trim off all of the extra fabric. Use a little bit of glue along the raw edges to keep the from unraveling, or fold them under and glue.
Cut Edge Pieces
Now your ottoman pillow is completed you will need to attach extra bits around the edge to keep it from slipping off the cover of the pot. You should use at least eight pieces, each about two inches, but you may use more bits if you would like. Cut them from your narrow board and sand down any rough edges.
Covering Edge Pieces
Use the extra fabric to cover your little wood pieces. Even though you can wrap it any way you like, here's a quick way to add an extra decorative touch. Put your wood block at the center of piece of fabric large enough to fully cover it. Glue one of those long narrow ends at the center of this cloth. Add glue to the ends and sides of the block and then press the faces of the cloth up against it to create four corners. Fold these corners in one at a time across the front and glue to fasten. Then fold the top closed to complete.
Putting The Edge Pieces
Insert multi-purpose or wood glue to the peak of each of the timber pieces and place them evenly around the edge of the pillow using all the decorative folded side facing out. Clamp down each piece and allow to dry for at least an hour.
Screwing Pieces Together
After the glue has set, secure the connection between the border pieces and the center cushion by screwing them together. You'll need screws that are long enough to maneuver through the entire block of timber and to the plywood, but not so long that they move all of the way through the plywood. The specific length will depend on the type of plywood you employ and how large your cubes are, so measure it out to be sure.
Painting The Screws
After all your screws are in place you can paint them to match with the background colour of the fabric. Although this isn't mandatory, it's a wonderful touch which makes it look a little more polished.
Finishing Touches
Last, you can paint the bottom of your pillow. Again, if you are not worried about anyone seeing the floor, you can skip this step. But if you're going to be lifting it and putting things under everyday, the finishing touches are able to really make a difference.
Prepared to Use!
Allow the paste in your cushion dry for 24 hours, and it is ready to work with. Place your floral cushion in addition to your planter and envision that those beautiful flowers are growing out of it! Any time you will need a fast storage space just remove the top, throw your items in, and then replace the cushion.
