The Stansells are clearly a family of musicians and at least 2 future planet travelers.

Retro Realness Kitchens are everybody's favorite gathering place, and visual artists Whitney and Micah Stansell's home in Atlanta is not any different. It's filled with character and retro chic to boot. Mint green is quickly becoming my own fave for kitchen applications and I really love using art in kitchens also. Not only do the Stansells have two Jeff Guy portraits displayed on the windowsill, they've layered them with pieces which their children have generated. Micah and Whitney are very aware of goodwill in their home's layout: the colour teal is represented to the kitchen island and also the breadbox. Besides the nostalgic selection and mixer, the counters are 4x4 tiles as opposed to one solid surface and have been recently restored by Micah himself.

Meet the Stansells Seated on the front steps of their 1920s home on a quiet road in Atlanta, Georgia, Whitney and Micah Stansell are musicians and documentary makers. The Stansells are only the second owners of this home and share it with their three children. From the 14 years they've been around custom mirrors toronto . Micah and Whitney have completed a variety of renovations, but consistently with regard to the house's original structure. Both are inspired by the nature of the elderly home and use those values to a simple and joyful life.

A Bold Intro The turquoise painted front door with a stained glass inset is simply a tribute to this joyous palette that awaits inside. Guests are instantly greeted with bright yellow walls motivated by a ginkgo leaf that Whitney located on a morning walk through the area. The wall color is the ideal backdrop for the Stansell's vast art collection.

A Collected Space The living room boasts a group of vintage furniture, locates and artwork curated to reflect and fulfill the needs of the youthful, modern family. The triptych above the sofa, a product of one of the Stansell's art installations, manages to bridge all the room's colors successfully. The 1970s settee was recovered from a barn and brought back to life with the brightly colored teal upholstery. Whitney's present most prized possession is that the Candice Greathouse photograph over the fireplace.

Family Heirlooms This pristine pair of cushioned chairs was passed from Micah's grandmother. They are a perfect way to inject a little generational history to some young family's home. Family heirlooms are always a fantastic idea. You'll notice that beneath the white painted crown molding is a white image rail. In many older homes, the walls are plaster as opposed to drywall. Plaster is much tougher and more challenging to fix; therefore, a parcel of molding/rail is employed as a coating to attach hardware and wire, and then your art to. Preservation is key in caring for elderly homes. The Stansells cleverly repeated the teal color on the drapery panels, but used white sheers on the window's interior for semi-privacy while still allowing light in.

Always Greener The Stansell family dining room is minimal in design but dramatic in colour. The stunning green is definitely a showstopper trimmed out in white and a perfect match to the tulip-base white dining table. This chamber is an illustration of the fun you'll have mixing furniture fashions. The wood-stained chairs are more conventional, but they sit at a contemporary dining table, with a headboard chandelier and surrounded by contemporary art. The color green is associated with growth, harmony and security: I'd say that's a perfect fit for Stansell family dinners.

Constructed for Storage Every home needs to be so well equipped as to have extra storage for the kitchen, plus a landing spot for coats, bags and also to fall off moist shoes. This area is just off of the kitchen and adjacent to the rear door, therefore in the perfect position for how this family functions. The two shelves flanking the cased opening hide pocket doors that lead to the kids' play area and powder room. While the spaces are beautifully arranged I can't help but be captivated by the magnificent area rugs in both spaces. They are definitely adding exemplary significance within this zone of the house.

Boys Town This space hosts both Stansell boys, who discuss this bedroom that could also be described as their own little well-curated tradition of pursuits. Their personalities and evidence of their adventures are proudly displayed around their area. When you look closely you will spy that at least one of these boys is a budding chef. They also have a small family of hamsters involving them, plus they adore yellow tractors. The boys' room is a really good example of how I approach kids' spaces: always go ashore with walls and bedding. Between the toys, novels, art, rugs, etc. there will be a lot of chance for stimulation/adding curiosity without becoming too active. My fave in the room? The drapes are perfectly appointed: they seem fun and place an exclamation point on the whole space.

Oh the Places We'll Go! The Stansells are clearly a family of musicians and at least 2 future planet travelers. Maps are a simple and inexpensive instrument for decoration in a child's room. It's amazing the way the boys share the same wall color as their sister but the disposition of these rooms is totally different solely based on decoration. The boys were fortunate enough to have a rug stitched to their own room, which by how successfully marries all of the colours together harmoniously.

Sentimental Value Everything in the young woman's area has meaning. Here's a closer look at the quilt talented to her out of her mom and grandmother. Whitney and Micah purchased this vintage bed, revived it, and lacquered it reddish particularly for his or her daughter. It works flawlessly with her well-organized red bookcase. Micah had the colorful rug woven particularly for her room when she was born. Last, the well-preserved hardwood flooring are original to the home.

Girl Power We have made it upstairs to the family's private spaces and following is a snapshot of Whitney and Micah's kid's room. The design hasn't strayed far from the principles already created. This room boasts another lovely shade of green and promotes imagination and imagination. There is a collage of the woman's own artwork above her bed plus a distinctive piece above the bookcase created by Whitney representing her younger self with her own mother. The quilt was hand sewn by Whitney and her mom and the adorable crochet critters were handmade by Whitney's sister. What is that for three generations of artists? The plan is simple, the colours are bright and the disposition is happy.

It is Easy as 1-2-3 Personalization in kid room decoration is another affordable way to create a room feel special. As performers the messages we are communicating to our younger clients have to be a little more literal. Where form meeting function is paramount for grownup spaces, possibly enlightening and practical decor take precedence with young children because it did here at the boys' room. When the room has a great base, it is readily and inexpensively altered as children's interests grow.

The Office Next Door Micah Stansell's workplace is actually in the home next door. The aesthetic is a complete departure from all the family home, however it's the great blank canvas for him to create and edit movie and exhibitions. The top level white space is flooded with brightness through skylights and character-rich using a vaulted ceiling, wood beams and original exposed brick columns. The entire left side of the space is decked with storage cabinets concealed by white glass doors that mix into the walls. This space is a super thoughtful minimalist fantasy and perfect for any creative.
