James Rega, whose firm, MDMA, restored the Kun House, needed to custom fabricate the fluorescent lighting fixtures constructed into the mirror to match the original ones employed by Neutra.

Throughout the day I love to sit in the living/dining room deck flat with my espresso that I just made in my Rosito Bisani espresso maker," said Casale.

Home Exterior "Throughout the day, you really can enjoy the proportions of Neutra's exterior design," said Casale. "I can never wait to start the garage door, because the rear wall is a wall of glass with an uninterrupted view of West Hollywood below."

Living Room Produced in 1929, the Alvar Aalto seat with natural timber arms is just one of Casale's treasured pieces in the home. The shelving displays some of his architecture and film publications. "I've a significant collection since I am also a commercial and music video director. I collect as many books as I can!" He says.

Living Room "I really admire the Kadinsky print, 'Meeting Point glass shower doors toronto .' from the living room," said Casale. "And I love the wool mohair mix used on the couch. It is a substance not used. This is obviously a great room to entertain my friends and partners when they encounter at night"

Indoor/Outdoor Living Casale noted that this photo illustrates what Neutra does so well: that the "seamless" flow from inside to outdoor space. "This is what I love about his design," he explained. "The attractiveness of the house is illustrated by the accuracy of his design."

Kitchen Casale finds the kitchen to be a peaceful place to spend time. "When I wash my dishes, I love looking beyond the window over the sink," he said. "It's a very relaxing sensation being in this area."

Kitchen Countertop Home restoration specialist James Rega discovered the Vitrolite for the kitchen countertop in a deserted art deco theater in Pennsylvania. "This was a substance that was popular in the 1930s," said Casale, that loves to concoct his gourmet dishes here. "I was really impressed by how futuristic the layout seemed. He looked for this substance for over a year!"

Pantry Doors Neutra designed the louvered cabinet doors to let air circulate through.

Dining Room Casale enjoys the pure wood floors in the dining room. "According to Neutra's original specifications, the timber flooring produce a rich heat to counter an otherwise austere, Bauhaus-style room," he explained. "They keep it from becoming cold, and I like that. The diffusion of the sun pouring in through Neutra's cloth colours adds to the coziness that makes you never want to leave. The colors were custom made, because none are made like this anymore."

Dining Room Table The dining room table is a diversion based on photos of a black lacquered Neutra-designed table. "The chairs were obtained in a furniture voucher," added Casale. "They were created by Mart Stam, a designer popular from the late 1920s. And the 1936 clock designed by Gilbert Rohde on the credenza was designed exactly the same year that the Kun House was completed."

Custom Blinds Custom-made blinds offer privacy for the home's occupants.

Terrace Each degree of the Kun House comes with an outdoor terrace. "Throughout the day I love to sit in the living/dining room deck flat with my espresso that I just made in my Rosito Bisani espresso maker," said Casale. "On a transparent day, you can see the ocean. It's very unique."

Master Bedroom "Neutra never wanted any walls to have holes in them, so pictures were hung via wires so the walls were preserved," said Casale. "He created an exact routed groove, about 12 inches from the ceiling, where you hang a cable for your own pictures. He'd paint the wall a muted color of grey up to this groove and white above it, making a canopy effect."

Built-In Drawers Built-in drawers flank the bed in the master bedroom. "I really enjoy the pre-Columbian sculpture of a Valdivian owl," said Casale. "I have always been fascinated by the power of owls. My retro home in Palm Desert has owl temples, temples and taxidermy in it. The framed picture is a Kandinsky sketch from 1930 created with India ink."

Master Bedroom "From the master bedroom, I use the salmon-colored seat and the table next to it for when I wish to read," said homeowner Gerald Casale. "I love sitting there and never want to leave. Along with the natural lighting is indeed warm, too."

Muted Color Palette Casale is a major fan of the color white. "You can not have too much white on your house," he explained. "I like to shut the doorway of the master bedroom and go through the serene solitude there. In addition, I adore the built-in dividers, that have no handles. Neutra anticipated this design fad." The vintage light switches are dummy proof: in/on, out/off.

Bathroom "It's been 50 years since those sink fittings were manufactured, so that it was actually the Holy Grail when we found them," said Casale. "James Rega, whose firm, MDMA, restored the Kun House, needed to custom fabricate the fluorescent lighting fixtures constructed into the mirror to match the original ones employed by Neutra. They came out great!"

Bathtub Casale appreciates the solitude the translucent glass from the bathroom supplies. "Along with the white shower curtain looks better than when it had ducks on it," he quipped.

Bathtub Fixtures "These fixtures were really tough to find, and the MDMA crew were thrilled to locate them," said Casale. "I love the classic, no-nonsense appearance."

Showerhead Neutra specified this classic showerhead in his original design for your house.

Den "I work from the den, creating new ideas for music and movie jobs," said Casale. "I enjoy its clean, uncluttered feel. It makes it a lot easier to focus."

Terrace Away Den Like many rooms in the house, the den opens to a spacious deck.

Home at Night "This is just inside the entrance on the upper level," said Casale. "I love having the ability to see the panorama of Los Angeles lights, stretched from the ocean to the airport."

Rooftop Deck "Looking back toward the shore and the entry foyer, this is the perfect area for any cocktail party, especially at golden hour when the sun is setting," said Casale.
