Since Kristen enjoys to watch TV during dinner, then it was important she squeeze some dining space to the living space.

Multitalented Painter Painter and enthusiastic do-it-yourselfer Kristen Fountain Davis turned her 850-square-foot Atlanta condo into a showcase for her painting skills and her ability to turn trash into treasure.

Chic Kristen was able to present her small 10-by-12-foot living space a high-energy, classy look by adhering together with flea markets for staple pieces, then updating them with colour. The walls were painted a dark blue tone from Benjamin Moore known as Black Horizon. "I really like using dark colors to make backdrops for my pieces," she states. "The canary yellow bamboo seat and the pair of turquoise end tables really pop from the blue. Plus, the navy blue makes my abstract art look much better!"

Put the Scheme When deciding on a color scheme for her condo's living space, Kristen chosen to pull the same hues of orange and yellow from a preliminary abstract painting. For contrast office wall partition systems . she set it all against navy blue walls, noting: "Everything looks so crisp contrary to the navy, especially my white sofa. Although it only cost $25, it looks like a million bucks up against the blue."

Experimental Art Along with painting walls, furniture and canvases, Kristen frequently experiments with unique materials and applications to make one-of-a-kind functions of art. "The 20-by-20-inch framed piece along the couch wall is really a play on texture," she says. "I blended a very simple bit of white burlap with a little remnant out of a busted piece of art. By adding 4-inch thick matte, it turned disparate materials into a crisp, abstract statement"

Turquoise End Tables Kristen scored a pair of mid-century modern end tables from a garage sale for $10, sanded them down, and painted them a high-gloss shade from Sherwin-Williams called Aquarium. The hardware has been taken from a different piece and spray-painted gold. "Gold is my favorite accent color for turquoise; it appears really rich and glamorous," the builder states. To get a hint of texture, Kristen coated the open bottom part that's just below the drawer with grasscloth wallpaper.

Cool Canary Chair Kristen's use of canary yellow spray paint gave a brand new life to a $50 bamboo lounge chair she bought in a sidewalk sale. To make the bit extra comfy, she spent $100 in new upholstery made from gray and white wrought cloth.

Clear Coffee Table Space was limited in Kristen's living room. To give the illusion that the place was slightly bigger, she opted for a transparent acrylic coffee table. "You can see right through it almost as though it's not even there," she states. "If I'd have gone with a good dining table, it would have taken up a good amount of visual space."

Media Center To be able to make a functional media center on a budget, Kristen customized two IKEA bookcases with crown molding and charcoal grey paint, then sandwiched a piece of plywood between them as a TV stand. The open storage concept also enables her to showcase her books, vintage magazines and favorite items.

Hand-Painted Pattern Although the wall supporting Kristen's media centre looks like background, it's actually a custom, hand-painted design. "When coming up with ideas for new patterns, I love to experiment in my own walls," she states. "This black and white trellis design was motivated by an area rug that I fell in love with. It was very fun to make and I'm expecting one of my customers will request me to personalize it for their homes." Not able to decide on the right shade of dark gray, Kristen mixed her own to create the perfect colour. "If you have different colors in your home, try mixing them together for a one-of-a-kind, custom hue," she states. "It's easy to do and it's free of charge."

Faux Built-In Bookcase For a built-in appearance, Kristen attached crown molding to the top of readymade bookcases. "Something important to keep in mind if you're doing this project yourself is to make sure and fill out the space between each piece of trim with wood filler prior to painting," she says. "It will give you a much more finished look in the long run."

Hidden Components In order to keep wires and components hidden from view, Kristen produced a customized skirt from burlap.

Brilliant Burlap She used hot glue to add grosgrain ribbon, creating a Greek key-like design.

Dining Nook Since Kristen enjoys to watch TV during dinner, then it was important she squeeze some dining space to the living space. "I just had about four feet of width to sneak in dining room," she clarifies. "Finding a table to fit the room perfectly was impossible. By buying two separate flea market tables one with the perfect top and another with the perfect foundation -- it enabled me to combine the two and make something habit." To make a uniform look, Kristin spray-painted the newly assembled pieces using a gloss white.

Eye-Catching Trim To get a Hollywood Regency touch, Kristen painted the inset detail of her contractor-grade front doorway shameful, noting, "It provides a really nice picture punch to an otherwise dull door."

Baroque Mirror Turned Chalkboard Kristen gave new function to some baroque mirror she picked up from a flea market. She removed the framework and spray-painted it turquoise, then substituted the mirror with a sheet of wood painted with chalkboard paint.

Prettified Curtain Panels When dressing the windows, Kristen needed something light, airy and organic. She customized ready-made, white linen drapery panels with Greek primary trim she tied with hot glue.

Discount Dining Chairs The dark blue background of Kristen's living room walls allowed her to use a wide selection of bold colors as accents. Eager to operate orange into the mix, she utilized a Laurie Smith graphic print cloth in white and pumpkin to re-cover a pair of modern dining chairs. Kristen found the seats for $10 in an antique shop and bought the fabric on clearance. "The entire bolt was less than $10; nonetheless, only one yard was sufficient to cover both chairs," she states. "My friends almost don't believe me when I tell them the chairs price less than $15."

Graphic Pair An abstract diptych in black and white on canvas provides a dose of picture layout to Kristen's otherwise muted and serene bedroom.

Bold Little Lamps Two of Kristen's favorite colors to use on canvas and for ornamental wall applications are blue and orange. To put the two to use in her bedroom, then she picked up a pair of ginger jar lamps out of a thrift store for $6, and then upgraded them with orange spray paint noting: "I love the comparison. It's bold but still really soothing."

Budget Headboard Determined to keep her bedroom decorating budget under $500, Kristen decided to make her own headboard from scratch. "I had a piece of plywood cut down to size at the home improvement store, I then used my own jigsaw to produce the scalloping. Since foam and batting can be very costly, I used a foam egg crate mattress pad to find the identical effect. Rather than cloth, I utilized a sand-colored twin bed sheet," she clarifies. "People find it hard to believe my headboard price less than $100."

Customized Bed Skirt Kristen produced a customized bed skirt predicated on a basic white variant she bought from IKEA, then customized it with orange cotton duck fabric. She says, "After putting my bed onto risers, it was too high for regular bed skirts to match properly. Updating the bed skirt was easy. All I did was cut fabric down to a four-inch band, then attach it to the base of the bed skirt with hot glue."
